This year the Christmas and New Year training camps will be taking place in the Italian resort of La Thuile which is a regular venue on the WC calendar. ATC is no stranger to La Thuile. We have run camps here over the years and enjoy good relations with the village and mountain. The Anglo Scottish race series will be included in the camp plan and takes place just across the valley in early January. This competition has it’s roots in Scotland and it offers the first chance of the new year to make BASS points and also for those seeking GB qualification.
About the camp
14 December 2019 - 8 January 2020
We are offering over three weeks of training and racing in La Thuile, Italy over Christmas and New Year. La Thuile is one of Europe’s top 10 resorts for guaranteed snow and it normally opens in late November, and it will be hosting the World Cup in February The training piste has snow making and a fast turn around offering us hard snow conditions and plenty of runs each day. We are excited about attending the first races of 2020 nearby, but we are much more excited about the training weeks on this winter camp - because it is in the classroom, where the real progress is made.
Programme and Training Plan
Please call us if you are not sure what the best training and racing weeks are for your young racer (Tel: 07940017548)
Training Week #1 14-21 December
This is a great week for first time campers on it’s own, or as part of a longer camp preparing for the Anglo Scottish races in early January. We will be offering school study time each day during this week, so if you are considering this week please arrange with your school to provide you with all the work you will miss, you will do it on the camp. On the hill, we will focus on technical skills in SL and GS this week. There may be the opportunity to train SG if the weather/conditions permits. We will work on putting together all the pre season preparation in to race practice. This means timed runs on full length courses. Off snow we will be conducting daily fitness activities.
Training Week #2 21-28 December
We will be celebrating Christmas this week with an evening meal on the mountain followed by a sledge run home. For those who attended week 1 we will continue to develop the skills we were working on, and will be slowly increasing the intensity of training. For those starting this week, we will be building up during the week to full length courses with timing and video.
Training Week #3 28 December - 4 January
This week will be devoted to race preparation, tactics and getting consistent finishes down sometimes tough courses. This is race simulation. For those starting this week we will be building up to full length courses with timing and video.
BASS Racing 4 - 8 January
There is no minimum standard for the Anglo Scottish BASS races, with 3 days of racing located in the neighbouring resort of Pila. These races are ideal for all age groups and abilities; from Under 10 to Under 16, and whether this is the first race series you are in, or if you are in the challenge for the medals and GB selection. You will be responsible for entering the races individually, GBR race entries and information can be found on www.gbski.com
