Royal Engineers Winter Sports (REWS)
ATC proudly provides coaching support for Royal Engineers Winter Sports (REWS) adventurous training programme. This ranges from training elite National Team athletes on a pathway to Olympic selection to training British army ski instructors delivering adventurous training to the troops.
Progress and results
It is safe to say the Royal Engineers are well a truly back in the medals. Brigadier Andy Barr's vision to create a Royal Engineers pathway to podium is now a reality and ATC are very proud to be involved coaching the teams. We have seen some fantastic progress in the two years since this project started. In 2016 the team won the Army Overall Corps Trophy and five Royal Engineer ski racers were selected on to the Army Team.
In 2017 several individual titles were won by Royal Engineers in the Divisional and Army Championships and in this years Inter Services Championships (Army Navy and RAF) all five individual titles in the male catagory were won by Royal Engineers representing the Army team which also won the overall team competition.
Elite Performance - Team OpTima and ATC
Together with team sponsors Optima Group ATC have created an ambitious programme to provide a small number of elite Royal Engineer athletes a world class training programme. Our aim is to enable them to compete with the best in the world and achieve Olympic selection representing Team GB in Beijing in 2022.
ATC boss Sean Langmuir is optimistic about the programme. "The process focuses on maximising the time these soldiers have available training and racing during the summer months in New Zealand and Australia. There are lots of training and sports science resources within the Army that will add value to the programme. We fully expect to not only keep up with the competition but start closing the gap to world best and Olympic podium potential".
